very common in thick forests and an important source in local economies because
of the medicinal and commercial value it provides.

diameter, brown, and slightly hairy. Inside, tiny seeds are enclosed. The taste
is slightly sweet and bitter, and the surface is coarse as compared to the
other species, Terminalia chebula (Harro).
Medicinal Uses and Benefits:
Fruit is regarded as very valuable in Unani medicine due to
its digestive properties. Fruit strengthens the teeth and cures bleeding of the
gums. The fruit is used in fever treatments, while its seeds are said to be
useful in cases of bronchitis. Soaked overnight in water, it can be an
efficient remedy for eye infections.

Due to its wide range of medicinal applications, Barro has
acquired significant commercial value in the herbal trade, especially in Nepal.
However, its ever-increasing demand has conversely raised concerns about
over-harvesting this plant in the wild, thereby threatening its existence. Its
conservation is thus being called for since it will ensure that the
sustainability of the natural population is conserved and that future
generations continue to enjoy its benefits.
