बैज्ञानिक नाम: Zanthoxylum armatum DC.

परिवार: Rutaceae

परिचय:

टिमुर, जसलाई नेपालमा 'नेपाली मसलाको' नामले पनि चिनिन्छ, मीटरसम्म अग्लो हुने एक झाडी या सानो रूख हो। यसको विशेषता भनेको यसको डाँठ वास्नादार हुनु हो। पातका हाँगाहरूमा

    रातो रंगका काँडा हुन्छन्। पाकेको फल देखि मिमी लामो हुन्छ काँचो अवस्थामा रातो पाकेपछि हल्का कालो वा खैरो रंगको चाउरी परेको हुन्छ। यसको वास्ना अनौठो तिखो हुन्छ, जसले गर्दा यो विशेष रूपमा परिचित छ।

    उपलब्धता:

    टिमुर नेपालका पूर्वदेखि पश्चिमका पहाडी क्षेत्रमा १२०० देखि २५०० मीटरको उचाईमा प्राकृतिक अवस्थामा पाइन्छ। विशेष गरेर, मध्य पश्चिमी भेगका पहाडी जिल्लामा यो प्रशस्त रूपमा पाइन्छ, जहाँ यसले विशेष महत्व राख्छ।

    सङ्कलन समय:

    टिमुरको फल आमतौरमा आश्विनदेखि मंसिरसम्म सङ्कलन गरिन्छ।

    व्यापारमा आउने भाग:

    टिमुरका लागि मुख्यतया फल प्रयोग गरिन्छ। फलको आकार सानो केराउ जस्तै हुन्छ यसको रंग कालो वा खैरो हुन्छ। जब यसलाई खाइन्छ, तब यसले मुखमा पर्पटैाउँछ धेरैजसो फल दुई फग्लेटामा विभाजित हुन्छ तर अलग छैन। कहिलेकाहीँ गाढा खैरो रंगको बीउ पनि पाइन्छ।

    प्रयोग:

    आयुर्वेदीय चिकित्सा पद्धतिमा टिमुरको फल टाउको दुख्ने दाँत दुख्ने समस्यामा प्रयोग गरिन्छ। यसलाई मसला कीरा मार्नको लागि पनि प्रयोग गरिन्छ। फलबाट निकालेको सुगन्धित तेल सौन्दर्य प्रसाधनमा, खाद्य पदार्थमा, औषधिमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ।

    संरक्षणको अवस्थाः

    नेपाल सरकारले यसलाई खेती संरक्षणका लागि प्राथमिकतामा राखेको , जसले गर्दा यसको संरक्षणमा योगदान पुर्याउँछ।

    Introduction:

    Timur, also commonly known as Nepalese Pepper, is a spiny shrub or small tree that may attain a height of 3 meters. Its aromatic odor in the stems is one of its distinctive characteristics. The branches bear red spines, adding to its distinctive appearance. The fruit, when ripe, measures about 3 to 4 mm, red when unripe, lighter blackish-brown when ripe. This fruit has a peculiar and pungent smell; hence, it is highly demanded for various culinary uses as well as medicinal purposes.

     

    Availability:

    Timur grows in the hilly areas of Nepal, ranging naturally from 1,200 to 2,500 meters. It is highly found in the Mid-Western hilly districts, where it plays a vital part in the culture and economy of the locals.

     

    Harvesting Time:

    The Timur fruit is usually collected between October and December of every year.

     

    Parts Used in Trade:

    The main part of the Timur plant that is used in trade is its fruit. The fruit is small and bean-like, with the color varying from black to brown. It gives a tingling sensation in the mouth when it is being consumed. Most of the fruits split into two pieces but are attached and sometimes dark brown seeds may be found.

     

    Uses:

    In Ayurvedic medicine, fruits of Timur are used to cure headache and toothache. In addition, it is used as spice and natural pesticide. The extracted essential oil from the fruit is used in cosmetics, food, and medicines.

     

    Conservation Status:

    Government of Nepal has selected Timur to cultivate and conserve. This has helped in the conservation of Timur through its sustainable utilisation.
