हर्रो, जसलाई चेबुलिक म्यरोबोलन पनि भनिन्छ, २० देखि ३० मीटरसम्म अग्लो

    एक पतझड रूख हो। यो खासगरी साल अस्नाका जङ्गलहरूमा पाइन्छ। यसको गोलाई लगभग मीटरसम्मको हुन्छ। मुख्य काण्डको वरिपरि हाँगाहरू पलाएर रहेका हुन्छन्। यो रूख विशेषतया भदौदेखि असोजसम्म फूल्छ, फल असोजदेखि माघसम्म लाग्ने पाक्ने गर्छ।

    उपलब्धता

    हर्रो १५० देखि ११०० मीटर उचाई भएका स्थानमा उष्ण समशीतोष्ण प्रदेशीय जङ्गलमा पाइन्छ। यो पूर्व मध्य नेपालमा सालको वनमा अधिकतर पाइन्छ।

    व्यापारमा आउने भाग

    हर्रोको फल बीउ व्यापारमा आउने मुख्य भाग हुन्। यसको फल अण्डाकार, पहेंलो सुन्तला रंगको अथवा हल्का खैरो रंगको हुन्छ। सुक्दै गर्दा यो पाँचवटा कोणमा विभाजित हुन्छ।

    सङ्कलन समय

    हर्रोको फल मङ्सिरदेखि फागुनसम्म सङ्कलन गरिन्छ।

    प्रयोग

    हर्रोको बोक्रा, फल बीउ औषधीको रूपमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ। यसको पाकेको अथवा काँचो फल छाला, कपडा, रंग आयुर्वेदिक औषधि उद्योगमा मुख्य रूपमा उपयोग गरिन्छ। यसलाई चर्मरोग, कुष्ठरोग, ज्वरो मुटुको रोगमा समेत औषधीको रूपमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ। आयुर्वेदिक औषधिमा त्रिफलाको एक महत्वपूर्ण घटकको रूपमा पनि प्रयोग गरिन्छ।

     

     

    Harro, also referred to as Chebulic Myrobolan, is a deciduous tree 20 to 30 meters high. It grows in the forests of Sal Shorea robusta and Asna Terminalia bellirica. The trunk can be as big as up to 2 meters in circumference, with young branches covered with rusty brown hairs. Leaves are 20 cm long, oblong to ovate, smooth, and entire. Flowers are flowering from September to October, and fruits are available from October to February.

     

    Availability

    This plant is found in tropical and subtropical forests from 150-1100 m. altitude. This plant is abundant in the forests of Eastern and Central Nepal, particularly in areas dominated by Sal trees.

     

    Harvesting Time

    The collection of Harro fruit usually starts from December to March.

     

    Part Used in Trade

    The major trade parts are the fruit and seed. The fruit is an oval, yellow-orange to somewhat shiny brown color. It usually measures 2 to 4 cm in length and when dried, it is divided into five angles.

    Use and Benefits

    Medicinal Uses:

    Skin Diseases: This plant bark and fruit are utilized for treating different kinds of skin diseases.

    Leprosy and Fever: Traditionally, it was used to treat various diseases like leprosy and fevers; hence, it can be regarded as an important herb in herbal treatment.

    Heart Diseases: Its medicinal properties are also useful in treating heart-related ailments, making it a multi-usable cure.

    Ayurvedic Medicine:

     

    It is one among the vital ingredients in the formulation of Triphala, which is one among the most consumed Ayurvedic medicines. Triphala is itself a mix of three different fruits, and Harro plays a crucial role that indeed makes the combination practical in nature.

     

    Culinary Uses:

     

    The ripened or raw fruits are consumable and have formed part of the food culture for quite some time, with their peculiar taste-a mixture of bitterness and sweetness.

    Industrial Uses:

     

    Harro fruits are utilized in the leather industry for tanning purposes. Its natural astringent properties make it suitable for use in dyes and treatment for textiles.

    Cosmetic Uses:

     

    Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action, Harro also finds cosmetic uses, especially in skin care products that address the problems of acne and skin texture improvement.

    Methods of Use

    Triphala Preparation: The dried and powdered Harro along with other fruits like Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) and Bahera (Terminalia bellirica) is prepared as Triphala. It is usually consumed with warm water or honey for digestion problems.

    Decoction: The bark or fruit can be used to prepare a decoction. Generally, it is boiled in water until the quantity of water reduces, after which it is consumable.

    Treatment for Diseases

    Skin Diseases: Dosage - The paste made from the dried fruit is applied topically on the affected area.

    Leprosy Treatment: It can be combined with other herbs for traditional remedies under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner.

    Digestive Disorders: Administration of the Harro powder with warm water before taking food gives relief in disorders like Indigestion.
