Introduction
Saldhup, scientifically known as Shorea robusta Gaertn., is
one of the major trees of Nepal. It grows up to 50 meters tall with
reddish-brown bark roughly marked with long, deep, vertical fissures. The
leaves are petioled, 10 to 20 cm long, and 5 to 13 cm wide. The upper surface
is bright green, but the undersurface is slightly hairy and pale green.
Yellowish flowers flower between April to May, fruiting in July.
Availability
Saldhup is distributed across elevations ranging from 150 to

region due to deforestation, it thrives abundantly in the western Tarai where
dense forests of this tree can still be found.
